"Just Add Besties" is the eighth episode of Season One. It premiered January 15th, 2016 on Amazon Video.
Synopsis[]
When Kelly finally finds her magical mentor, her cooking and spell knowledge is put to the test. Meanwhile, Darbie and Hannah learn that "forever" is a long time when they use magic to become BFF's with a world famous author who brings new meaning to the term, "stick together."
Plot[]
The episode starts with Kelly and Mama P standing in Mama P's pantry in the back of her restaurant. Kelly is looking in awe at the pantry and they have a short discussion about how they will try to break the curse on Grandma Quinn and Mama P. Mama P has Jake go to a Young Entrepreneur's camp to let Kelly start working at Mama P. Kelly gets confused when she realizes she needs to also work at Mama P's.
Mama P then returns and tells Darbie, Hannah, and Kelly that she delivered a sandwich to Trudith Winters, an incredibly successful author that wrote the Doomed Series, a famous book series.
Darbie and Hannah plan on staking out Trudith Winter's hotel lobby waiting for her to appear and spend time reading her twitter feed.
The scene changes to Kelly pouring salt into a salt shaker at Mama P's. Mama P points out that in magical recipes, there can be no mistakes otherwise anything can happen.
It goes back to Darbie and Hannah in the hotel lobby, when Trudith walks out of the elevator. When Trudith Winters appears, they run up and they have a short discussion with Trudith.
Then, Mama P educates Kelly on what a dollop, dash, pinch, and smidgen are. Mama P then has Kelly re-organize the pantry by family. Suddenly, Mama P looks at a picture on the wall of the pantry.
There's a flashback to a year ago when Mama P and Grandma Becky have a short discussion about how they could've saved someone.
When Kelly is finished, the spices start to shake angrily. Mama P then explains that physical families don't like being next to the emotional families and that Kelly should re-arrange them and place the physical families next to the intellectual ones. Kelly realizes that every family of spices influences a certain area.
The scene changes and Hannah and Darbie plan to use magic to meet Trudith Winters for Darbie to find out what happens in book 6 and for Hannah to get an autographed copy for her sister Hailey. They find BFF PB&J and they plan to cook it. After they cook it, they repeat Trudith's name and the next day, Trudith shows up at Mama P's to see Hannah and Darbie.
When Trudith enters Mama P, she acts very sour and takes a picture with Hannah and Darbie and they go to Hannah's house to surprise Hannah's sister Hailey. When they get to Hannah's house, Hailey thinks Trudith Winter's signature is forged but Trudith surprises Hailey and shuts the door on her. Darbie asks her about book 6 while Hannah says she needs to go to her guitar lesson.
It moves back to Kelly taking a break and eating a Berry Barrier Bar created by Mama P.
Trudith talks about hair before Darbie asks questions about her book. Trudith tells them that she's been stuck on the last chapter for a year before Hannah sends Kelly a text to help them. Darbie offers to help Trudith finish her book after Hannah and Darbie conclude that they need to finish something to break the spell.
Kelly is trapped in the kitchen and Mama P tells her to test her knowledge by creating a spell to break the barrier that Mama P brought. Kelly cooks a berry crumble, intended to crumble the wall but she makes a mistake by using Lapsus which is the mobility family, crumbling her mobility, sticking her to the floor. Kelly then tries again by adding Werpoes which affects the body, to break down the barrier.
There's a short scene of Darbie, Hannah, and Trudith working on the last chapter.
It returns and Kelly eats the crumble again, and this time, the spell she creates works. Mama P gifts her more magical spices for handling the situation well.
Hannah and Darbie return to Kelly's house and the three of them conclude using Kelly's new knowledge that they need to use Carnegian vinegar to sour their friendship with Trudith. After Trudith eats it, she leaves shortly and the scene changes to Mama P closing her restaurant. It ends in a suspenseful message that Ms. Silvers is going to curse Kelly if Mama P does something.
